Topshop florals and vintage knits

Topshop floral trousers and knitted tank | Ship-Shape and Bristol Fashion

Resolutions have been a common theme among bloggers this week, myself included, and one that I’ve seen cropping up a lot is outfit posts – improving photography, styling and just posting more outfits in general. Considering that Ship-Shape and Bristol Fashion is three and a half years old, I only got into the outfit post game fairly recently, previously preferring to photograph my new purchases hanging up, or chopping my head off. #error

While I don’t know that I want to post more outfits, I want to post better quality shots, and get better at using a tripod.

When I checked out the sales last week I came across this pair of floral print trousers in Topshop and at the weekend, instead of playing it safe, I decided to pair them with a couple of vintage pieces ( originally from Grandma Ship-Shape’s wardrobe) that I’ve previously been at a loss to do with.

I think it would be a stretch to call those pale, white ankles poking out of these trousers ‘alabaster’ but it is the middle of winter after all! The print on the trousers reminds me of renaissance paintings hanging in the Tate, or perhaps hanging either side of a window frame, either way I just find them so striking.

The cable knit tank has been languishing in my wardrobe for a while and I’ve decided that wearing it slightly off the shoulders workers better than straight on, and the black patent shoes and their dainty leather bows and clunky court heels remind me of a certain Wicked Witch…

There is something about wearing Grandma Ship-Shape’s old shoes that make me feel so feminine and ladylike. Although she can’t really wear this style anymore, she comes from a generation where simplicity and elegance were the watchwords of style, which I’ve always admired, if found somewhat difficult to pull off.

Are there any outfit wildcards you’ll be dusting off this year?
