A Very Vintage Summer

Summer, is that you? Like a fine wine or a slab of cheddar cheese, Summer 2012 has taken it’s time to mature. We finally experienced a bit of a breakthrough this morning, so much so that I decided to get my legs out in these denim shorts.

The deliciously bright green blouse is one of Grandma Ship-Shape’s cast-offs, and the Paisely scarf is one I picked up from the Bristol Flea Market. The sandals are Primark and are falling to pieces (becuase I’ve literally worn them to death) but hopefully they’ll survive one last pilgrimage to the Bristol Harbour Festival. See you there?

Another day, another glorious dollop of sunshine! I’m currently getting ready for my trip to London/France, but before I go, I wanted to do an outfit post to show of my latest find, and my new ‘do!

I only get my hair cut about twice a year, so I always like to experiment a bit, and this time I decided to embrace my inner redhead, what d’ya think? I don’t know about you, but on the morning of the day I’m due to go to the hairdressers, I always think my hair is great and that I shouldn’t change it. That must just be pre-haircut jitters though, as I’m always pleased with the end result!

The cream dress is one I bought at the Bristol Vintage Fair at Portland Square last year. Today seemed like the ideal day to wear it, and I’ve paired it with this fantastic wicker picnic basket I found at Bristol Flea Market a couple of weeks ago. I managed to get it for a fiver, but as half of one of the leather straps is missing, and the buckles are extremely rusty, I might have to use this as a storage solution rather than it’s intended use!

*Edit* There were a few more photos to come, but since WordPress/The Internet and this particular blog post don’t seem to be playing nicely today, this is your lot. Definitely going to take a leaf out of @Hayles‘ book and make the effort to start writing my posts in Notepad first in future!

Bristol Flea Market at Ashton Gate

Here are a few more photos from the Bristol Flea Market at Ashton Gate. As I mentioned in last week’s RTW post, S and I were there as stallholders, not buyers, though a gorgeous picnic basket did manage to make it’s way home with me…

Bristol Flea Market isn’t the first time I’ve sold my wares, as it were, but it is the first time this year, and I hope it will become a more regular fixture. I’m thinking about adding an online shop to this blog and I’d love to know what you think – I’m always eager to see what bloggers like Steffy’s Pro’s and Con’s are selling, but I’ve never bought vintage online before. Do you buy the majority of your clothes online? And have you ever bought clothes from fellow bloggers? I’d love to know your thoughts, so let me know by commenting below…

Rock The Week

Fashion related (and totally non-fashion related) things that have made my world go round over the last seven days…

• The House Bunnies. No, that’s not the sequel to the disastrous 2008 romcom starring Anna Faris, it’s the ‘awww’ factor in today’s RTW post. Meet Grace Kelly, left, and Bonnie Tyler, our house guests for the next few days. Grace and Bonnie belong to my brother-in-law and his girlfriend but the’ve been staying with us since Wednesday. They are so cute but so cheeky, they have a look of permanent mischief on their faces whenever we let them out of their hutch!
• Fashion Says Stitched. I loved seeing the final collections from soon-to-be graduate fashion students on Friday. It’s always exciting to see new talent and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for UWE’s finest. I’ll put up some photos and links to the students’ work later this week.

• John Williams. You may not recognise the name, but this is the man behind the film scores for Jaws, Superman, Harry Potter and Star Wars to name but a few. Last night I went to see the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra play a selection of his well-known compositions at the Colston Hall, and it was a truly magica evening. Unfortunatly I couldn’t stay out late as I had to get up very early this morning…
• … for the Bristol Flea Market, above. This time I wasn’t hunting for vintage bargains, I was selling them! My love of vintage clothing is starting to outgrow the house, so I thought it was time to sell some of the pieces I don’t wear anymore, along with S from Beautiful Plumage.

Something for The Weekend… flea markets and student fashion

Looking for a fashionable fix this weekend? Read on…

First up, catch the future of British fashion on Friday night at Fashion says stitched. The University of the West of England‘s brightest final year fashion and textiles students are presenting their graduate collections at The Trinity Centre tomorrow night. Tickets cost £10, or £8 if you’re a student, and the evening includes a catwalk show, along with an exhibition of textiles, fashion illustration, photography and styling. Click here for more info.

On Saturday, you should get yourself down to Folk House on Park Street for their annual flea market. Entry to the event is free, and promises a mix of vintage clothing, homewares, books and bric-a-brac. This is the centre’s fourth flea market and is a great way to support local, independent traders. Park Street also boasts loads of fantastic independent boutiques and charity shops, so you’ll be spoilt for choice once you leave Folk House, plus you can even get a free lunch if you pop down the road to College Green!

If you like vintage then you’re in luck, as the monthly Bristol Flea Market is back this Sunday. Held at the Ashton Gate Stadium, this event promises over a hundred stalls selling vintage clothes, fabric and homewares. I picked up a gorgeous Paisley scarf back in November, so I can’t wait to see what gems are on offer this weekend. Doors open at 9am and entry is £3 – I think there are discounts for students, but I’m not a 100% on this, so it may be worth ringing ahead if you want to find out!
