Rock The Week

Fashion related (and totally non-fashion related) things that have made my world go round over the last seven days…

Rock The Week 05/02/13

  • It’s May! How is it possibly May already, eh? It feels like only days ago that we were trudging through February wearing more layers than Jon Snow (little bit obsessed with Game of Thrones at the moment) and now here we are in May, replacing winter coats with sunglasses and choosing bare legs over tights. The countdown to summer is officially on…
  • Lomography. This week I shared a few more double exposure lomo shots from the last couple of months, taken using my Diana Dreamer camera. The results are mixed but now that the weather is changing for the better, hopefully the next batch will be even more colourful.
  • Owls. Gift Owl featured on the blog on Tuesday and apparently they’re working bespoke wedding gift packages  so if you’re looking for a present for a friend or loved one, pop along to their website to see how they work. Choosing presents all days sounds like my kind of job :)
  • Pussy cats. Today I spent the afternoon at a bake ‘n’ bitch session (far more friendly than the name suggests) where I met this little lady, above. My friend picked up her new kitten this morning, so the last few hours have been spent drinking Pimm’s, eating banana bread and playing with Tilly the kitten – heaven!

What’s been rocking your world this week? How are you spending the Bank Holiday weekend. Let me know by commenting below…

Absence makes the heart grow fonder…

Ship-Shape has taken a bit of a break from blog-land recently but this is only because I was super busy doing the following things…

A raving good hen do

Ship-Shape out on the town...

Ok so it wasn’t just because I’ve been dancing the night away for eight weeks – this was for a special occasion, promise!

Bristol 10k finish line
Bristol 10k finish line

Congratulations to everyone who ran the Bristol 10k in May, be it for a charity, a personal goal or just for a giggle – it was a fab day and the perfect excuse to buy some new running threads.

Island bliss

Island bliss

… and no wedding would be complete without a well deserved break in the middle of nowhere, without a phone, computer or mother-in-law in sight ; )

So that’s what I’ve been up to in a photographic nutshell – I hope you’ve had a cracking few weeks and I promise normal Ship-Shape posts, gossip and info on all things Bristol Fashion will resume shortly.

Gok’s Bristol Clothes Roadshow

Gok Wan and Brix Bristol catwalk

Gok Wan and Brix Smith-Start on the Bristol catwalk

The night has finally come – the Bristol episode of Gok’s Clothes Roadshow airs tonight on Channel 4. After freezing my toes off at the catwalk show and attending behind the scenes filming sessions back in January, I’m eager to see how the finished episode looks. The three Bristolians treated to Gok-over looked fab and the designer verses high street looks included nautical, ballerina and gold themes. I won’t give away who won so you’ll just have to tune in and see for yourselves.

Thanks to Cabot Circus for this photo – far better quality than my blurry paparazzo style shots taken on the night!

An accidental Sunday shopping spree

salmon pink jersey top

Today has been a typical Sunday – chilled out and relaxed, with a trip to Fabric Land for bridesmaid dress fabric, a visit to the Bristol Museum for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition (amazing!) and an accidental trip to Primark.

All I wanted was a pair of socks – that’s all – and then I remembered I needed a new black vest top for yoga, then I was drawn to the lightweight layered jersey tops, and by the time I made my way to the till via the accessories department, I knew my resolve not to spend more than a fiver had all but disappeared. And did I get the pair of socks I actually needed? Nope.

But in my defence what I did get were some practical, versatile pieces that could be paired with skinny jeans, tailored jodhpurs or even a nice pair of denim cut-off shorts once the weather bucks its ideas up. The salmon pink colour, above, compliments my hair and skin tone and the cropped navy top, below, is baggy enough to give me cover while still looking great with a fitted pair of trousers or leggings. The red and tan faux leather satchel is small enough for popping out and about and may even be my festival bag for 2011. The rope necklace, above, was a bit frivolous but I love the nautical theme and it is a fail-safe option, along with florals, for this time of year.

At least that’s my rationale and I’m sticking to it : )

>Ship-Shape is Back

>Well, after nearly five weeks of tropical heat, cultural adventures and plenty of buses, trains and planes, Ship-Shape is well and truly back on British, and Bristol soil.

While I’m not loving the temperature (about 25 degrees below what I’ve become accustomed to) I am excited to be back in a world where the internet is only a few feet away and where I can resume full blogging service.

Look out for posts about upcoming events such as Bristol Fashion Week and the pieces I’m eyeing up on the high street, as well as the development of Bristol’s boutiques and everything else in between.

>Happy Holidays from Ship-Shape!

>Happy Holidays from Ship-Shape & Bristol Fashion! I hope you’ve all had an amazing Christmas and stuffed yourself silly with turkey, chocolate and all the trimmings (food trimmings that is, not things like tinsel – that would just be silly).

I’m back in Bristol and about to move house tomorrow so I have no idea how frequent my posts will be (shuddering at the the very thought of no internet for a few days). Posts should be back to normal within the week, any longer and Virgin Media are going to feel my wrath.

>Ship-Shape and Florida Fashion

>
I’ve jetted across the pond to Florida for a few weeks. Sadly not in the name of fashion, but I will endeavour to source out the best fashion America has to offer and blog about my findings as much as possible!

So far in the depths of Florida all I’ve seen are shorts, baseball caps and suspicious looking Hawaiian shirts but I’ll find some fashion worth blogging of somewhere in this state! At the same time I’ll do my best to keep up with you fashion forward lovelies in the South West so feel free to comment on up coming Bristol based events…
